The Law Offices of Matt Horak
A weapon crime is a criminal offense that involves the possession of an illegal weapon or the use of a weapon. Commonly used illegal weapons include firearms, knives, switchblades, metal knuckles, explosives and billy clubs.
The use of illegal weapons has been a problem for years in Texas. All too often, people carry illegal weapons and use these instruments to commit violent crimes, gang crimes, theft crimes, sex crimes and even juvenile crimes. What many people do not realize is that when they carry a weapon that is categorized as unlawful, they may be subjected to misdemeanor or felony weapon charges simply for possessing the weapon. It does not matter if they used the weapon or not, simply having it on their bodies can lead to criminal charges if they are caught by law enforcement.
When this happens, people can end up having to spend time in jail or end up having to pay large fines for weapon possession. In cases where the person actually used the weapon that was in his/her possession, the legal consequences will be much more severe if he/she is convicted by a Texas court of law.
